VERONA – Marilyn Louise (Smith) Carlton, 67, wife of Chuck Carlton, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024.
Born February 7, 1957 in Covington, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Chester Harold and Louise (Turner) Smith. Marilyn earned an associates degree from Tennessee Temple University. She was employed as a caregiver for Home Instead Senior Living prior to retirement. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, and enjoyed numerous hand-crafts including quilting, basket-weaving and crocheting. She was a deeply devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
On December 18, 1976 she married her college sweetheart, Charles Phillip Carlton, Jr., who survives. Also surviving are their five sons, Nathan Carlton (wife Wendy) of Matthias, W.Va., Jared Carlton (wife Chrissy) of Churchville, Justin Carlton of Verona, Will Carlton (wife Kimberleigh Shields) of Craigsville, and Logan Carlton of Harrisonburg; two sisters, Linda Crosby (husband Jim) of Lynchburg and Barb Smith (Kathleen Carico) of Covington, Pa.; brother-in-law Tom Hazelton of Wellsboro, Pa.; grandchildren Michael Carlton, Evan Carlton, Dylan Carlton, Campbell Carlton, and one soon to be born; and two great-grandchildren, Carter and Raelynn Carlton.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elaine Hazelton and Connie Smith.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 27 in the chapel of Bear Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her sons and grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation (msfocus.org).
