Marilyn Toresdahl Chestnutt

Marilyn Toresdahl Chestnutt, a beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina. Born on January 20, 1954, in the coastal town of Sea Isle City, New Jersey, she lived a life full of warmth and inspiration, reaching the age of 71.

Marilyn dedicated thirty years of her life to nurturing and inspiring young minds as a Physical Education teacher in Brunswick County Schools. Her passion for teaching and her genuine care for her students left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Beyond the gymnasium, her love for the beach was undeniable, and she found joy in collecting sea glass-simple treasures that reflected her appreciation for beauty in all forms.

She is preceded in death by her dear parents, James Everett Toresdahl and Anita Toohey Toresdahl; her loving sister, Marie T. Martin, and brother-in-law, John Martin.

Marilyn is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Michael Ray Chestnutt, who resides in Wilmington. She leaves behind her cherished brother, James D. Toresdahl of Estes Park, Colorado; her adored niece, Danielle W. Brooks, and her husband, Jon, of Ventnor, New Jersey; and her sister-in-law, Myra C. Rochelle, along with her husband, David, and their son, Evan, all of Wilmington. Her gentle spirit and kindness will be remembered fondly by her many dear friends.

Although no formal services are planned at this time, Marilyn's family invites those who wish to honor her memory to do so by offering memorials to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare or The Salvation Army.
