Marilyn Green Doherty
age 87, died peacefully Monday, October 2nd, 2023, surrounded by family at her home in Chelsea, Michigan. Marilyn was born October 28, 1935 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, graduated from Swarthmore High School, and then attended Duke University where she earned a B.A. degree and lettered in field hockey, lacrosse, and basketball.
After graduating from Duke, Marilyn married Robert W. Doherty, also of Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. They lived in Princeton, New Jersey, Amherst, Massachusetts and Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania where they raised two children.
Marilyn was a third-grade teacher then worked as a dental assistant at Frost Dental Clinic in Mt. Lebanon. She was a member of the American Association of University Women and the Mount Lebanon Parent-Teachers Organization. Marilyn was courageous, feisty, and put all her energy into everything she did. She was also adventurous and loved traveling, especially near the ocean; riding horses; playing paddle tennis; doing ceramics; and playing cards with her friends.
Marilyn is survived by her two children, Robert G. Doherty (Kay L. Holland) of Eaton Rapids, Michigan; Kathryn L. Doherty (Seth H. Goodwin), of Norwich, Vermont; grandchildren Izzy A. Doherty of Monkton Vermont; and Sage D. Goodwin, of Norwich, Vermont; and her beloved cat, Charlie.
