A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Marilyn Hooper Downs will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 943 Polk St., Mansfield, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.
Marilyn was born to W.C. and Adell May Hooper on May 15, 1945 in Mansfield, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents and special cousins, Joanne Walker and Donnie Downs.
Marilyn is survived by her brother, Wayne Hooper (Ronnie); nephews, Joel Hooper (Lynn), and Jody Hooper (Wendy); great-nieces, Kara, Alli, Katie, Reily and Abbie; great-nephews, Maxwell, Lincoln, Timothy, Allen, Chase and Drew; one great-great-niece, Hayes Sojka; several cousins including Walter Manning (Ellen) and Tim Mitchell (Amie) and her forever friend and caretaker, Diane Schonfarber.
Marilyn graduated from Mansfield High School where she was a star basketball and tennis player. She got her B.A. degree from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana. She retired from the Louisiana Department of Social Services.
Marilyn was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Mansfield, Louisiana. Her nephews and great-nieces loved spending time with her. Special times for Marilyn were spent at the Ranch in Center, Texas.
The family would like to express special recognition to Brandie Schonfarber, Mindy Schonfarber, Taylor Fletcher, Skylar Pratt, Jadyn Beck and Jace Beck for the love and care given to Marilyn through the years.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations to Gideon International, 8850 Chadwick Dr, Shreveport, LA 71129.
