Marilyn Kass Furbush, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025 at the age of 93, reuniting with her beloved husband, Douglas Dinsmore Furbush Jr.
Born and raised in Waltham, Massachusetts, Marilyn graduated with distinction from Saint Charles High School, where she lettered in Girls' Basketball and stood out for her academic excellence and quiet resolve.
In 1970, she earned her teaching certificate and began a career in education and for many years taught at the North Attleboro school system as a math teacher, remembered for her intellect, steadiness, and quiet dedication to her students.
In 1972, Marilyn's life took a meaningful and unexpectedly delightful turn when she met an automobile salesman named Doug. She walked onto the lot and drove off in a bright orange Chevrolet Camaro-and into a relationship that would last a lifetime. Their connection was immediate, and over time, it deepened into a partnership filled with affection, humor, and shared purpose. They were married at the historic Old North Church and spent 42 years as husband and wife, together they built a life based on quiet joy, steady companionship, and a deep appreciation for each other's company.
Together, Marilyn and Doug were active members of the Millis Golf League, each playing in their respective men's and women's divisions. Their shared time was filled with calm pleasures-sailing the waters of Narragansett Bay, returning annually to Northern Maine to enjoy the woods and fly fish in their favorite waters, and traveling on golf vacations.
Marilyn's creativity found expression in baking, sewing, quilting, and crafting. Her hands were always engaged in thoughtful work, her spirit grounded in gratitude.
She was a proud stepmother to Paula Guttilla and her husband Tom, Douglas D. Furbush III and his wife Roseann, Charles "Chuck" Furbush, Patti King and her husband Walter and Richard Furbush, and a devoted sister to Lillian "Sissy" Kass and Kenneth Alden Kass. She was a Step grandmother to six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Douglas D Furbush Jr., siblings Robert Newton Kass, Donald Francis Kass, Eleanor Marie Kass, William Richard Kass, and David P. Kass.
Marilyn spent her final years at The Residence at Charles Meadow Assisted Living in Millis, Mass., where she was cared for with kindness and dignity. Her caregivers became dear friends, and their compassion helped ease the ache of life without her husband Doug.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on September 26, 2025, at St Theresa Parish 35 South Main St. Sherborn, Mass. at 11:00a.m. Followed by Interment in Newton Cemetery.
