Funeral Service at First Baptist Church, Walters, OK, Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 10:00 a.m., with interment in the Walters Cemetery, under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. Viewing on Thursday and Friday.
Marilyn Kay Hilbert was born to Walter Tipton and Leola Mary (Peden) Hilbert on February 3, 1939 in Lawton, OK and departed this life in Duncan, OK on August 18, 2025 at the age of 86 years, 6 months, and 15 days.
Kay grew up north of Walters, graduating from Walters High School Class of 1957 and then attended Cameron College, receiving her Associates Degree in Business. After graduating she began a 40-plus year career with Civil Service at Fort Sill, retiring as Administrative Officer for the Communications-Electronics Command of the U.S. Army Field Artillery School.
She married Stanley Garrett on October 20, 1970 and to the union two children were born. Kay and Stan made their home in Walters. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and was very active through the years in Children’s Sunday School, VBS, delivering meals, organizing funeral dinners, and serving as church treasurer for over 25 years.
Kay enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and granddogs Hudson and Jäger, growing flowers, baking, Facebooking, and having lunch with friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Stan.
Survivors include 2 children, John Paul Garrett and Melissa of Lawton, and April Redden of Edmond; her stepdaughter, Cynthia Hayes and Todd Lafleur of Ville Platte, LA; her brothers Buddy Hilbert of Temple and David Hilbert and Karolyn of Hulen; a sister-in-law, Nelda Garrett of Conway, AR; 3 grandchildren, Madeleine and Dr. Clayton Thompson of Haslet, TX, Gunner and Karlie Garrett of Hollis, OK, and Liberty Redden of Phoenix, AZ; 2 great-grandchildren, Wyatt Thomspon and Gracie Garrett, many other relatives and friends.
