Marilyn Jean Gauthier, a resident of Friends Fellowship community in Richmond, Ind. passed away on February 19, 2026, after a short illness.
Marilyn was born July 21, 1931, in Nora Springs, Iowa. She was the daughter of James W. Duff and Grace Tarpy Duff.
Shortly after graduating from high school, she met and married Ray Gauthier. The couple then moved to Hammond, Ind. where she studied and enjoyed a career as a dental assistant. Their son Michael Ray was born in Hammond.
Marilyn had an infectious love for life! She loved and was loved by her friends and family. She always welcomed everyone with a smile and a genuine interest in their wellbeing.
Marilyn loved animals especially her cats! She fed and took care of many of the strays in her neighborhood. She was also very active in numerous community and charitable organizations. She enjoyed PEO, contributed time and cooking for Rock Solid Ministries, and was an active member in Central United Methodist Church where she participated in Creative Hands. Marilyn loved the Symphony and was a season ticket supporter. She and Ray were avid and competitive card players!
She loved Gardening, Baking, and Shopping! Proof being the racks and racks of clothing in every spare location in her home!
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Ray; her son, Michael; two brothers, Roy and Warren; and a special niece, Catherine Duff Fox.
She is survived by her niece, Karen Dodge; nephews, James and Tom Duff; and several other great nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Marilyn's wishes no funeral service will be held.
In lieu of any flowers the family suggests donations to the
American Cancer Society, Wayne County Unit, P. O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741, or to your personal
favorite charity.
She loved and enjoyed her friends and they loved her. She would want all of you to know how thankful she was to have so many of you in her life! While her passing is a tremendous loss for all of us, we should be comforted by her positive spirit and the wonderful memories she has left us!
