Marilyn P. Gilroy

Marilyn P. Gilroy of Sandusky, Ohio passed away on December 27, 2025 at Providence Care Center in Sandusky. Marilyn was born August 16, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio to Alex and Patricia (Kouba) Watson. She grew up in Cleveland and enjoyed high school in Poodle skirts, attending sock hops, and listening to Buddy Holly, Pat Boone, etc. (and listening to them her entire life). She received her B.A. from St. Francis University in Joliet Illinois and her Masters from St. Louis University. She settled in Kansas and worked for Kansas State University. She met her future husband, Jim Gilroy, while he was stationed on an Air Force base in Kansas. They were Married in 1973 and moved to an Air Base in England for 3 years. Later coming back to the States, they settled in Ohio. Marilyn taught Dietetic Education at Lima Technical and Owens Technical Colleges. Marilyn and Jim enjoyed their summers on Catawba Island, boating on Lake Erie and enjoying friends. They also enjoyed traveling to many countries and continents. Surviving are is her sister Judy Sutherland and nieces and nephews; Debbie Watson (Chuck Clarke, Kathy (Ted) Arnow, Cindy Watson, Matt (Jennifer) Sutherland, Kelly Sutherland, Patty (Chris) Heckler, Dan (Jenna) Sutherland, Tim (Mandy) Sutherland and 7 great nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband Jim, her brother Tom and her parents A funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Joseph Zybka at 10:30 am Saturday, February 21, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 822 Barclay St. Marblehead, OH. Inurnment will be in Mary Grove Cemetery Columbarium, Swanton, OH. Memorial contributions may be given to Catawba Point Association, 4271 N. Croghan St. Port Clinton, OH 43452.
