It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to Marilyn Morgan McPherson-Jones of Chickasaw, Alabama. Born on March 13, 1940 in Pine Hill, Alabama and passed away on March 9, 2025. Known for her love of flowers, she lit up when sharing her knowledge and beautiful gardens and devoted her time to Chickasaw Garden Club and many civic interests.
Marilyn graduated from Murphy High School and was a member of the Phi Theta Gamma Sorority. She attended business college and worked for the city of Mobile Tax Collector's office and the Merchant National Bank as the first female computer operator. After marrying, she traveled extensively and lived in Gulf Breeze, FL, Dothan, AL, Birmingham, AL, Itasca, IL, Riegelsville, NJ; Crystal Lake, IL; and Waxhaw, NC before returning to live in Mobile. She was employed at Teledyne Power Systems and then Southern Ionics in Chickasaw. In 1995 she suffered a gunshot wound from a teen robber that left her a paraplegic. She returned to work until 2001. In 2005 she married Edmond C. Jones, who shared her love of gardening and cared for her during her prolonged illness.
Marilyn is predeceased by her father Stevy M. Morgan, her mother Floy Brasell Morgan, her brothers Sheldon Legrande Morgan (Joyce) and Chester M. Morgan (Patricia). Survivors include her devoted husband Edmond C. Jones and his children, sons Robert W. Moore and Ledkins M. McPherson (Joy), daughter Deborahge Moore Oldham, six grandsons; Chris Koerner, Austin Domnitz, Hunter Moore, Heath Moore, Ian McPherson, Zane McPherson, four great grandchildren, Tori Koerner and Shilo, Sterling, and Noah Domnitz.
Special thanks to stepdaughter Carnie Fitzgerald and the hospice care team for helping make Marilyn comfortable and able to pass peacefully at home.
