Marilyn Byars Mikes was called home to the Lord on December 24, 2025, at the age of 78. She was born to Roy and Marie Byars on December 26, 1946, in Blanco, Texas. She was the oldest of 3 sisters.
Marilyn was raised in Blanco and lived there until after she graduated high school. She then moved to Austin, Texas to attend Durham Business School. Marilyn met Lawrence on a blind date in 1965. They later married in November 1966. They celebrated 56 years of marriage before Lawrence passed away in December 2022. They had 2 daughters, Debbie and Nanette. Marilyn worked many jobs over the years; National Western Life Insurance, State of Texas, Blanco Co. Clerks Office, Bealls and Sold Avon for many years. She loved to talk to people- she never met a stranger. Everywhere Marilyn worked or lived she was known for her baking. She was always baking something for somebody.
Marilyn was active in her church, Lions Club and many community organizations through the years. She loved getting together with family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Marie Byars and her husband, Lawrence Mikes.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Debbie Burt and husband Bobby and Nanette Mikes; sisters, Jeanette Leese and husband David, Patty Haas and husband Johnnie; grandchildren, Shelby Burt (Patrick), Travis (Wesleigh) Burt, and Kai Lakyn; great-grandchildren, Brody, Case, Cora, Knox and Maisey as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Liefie's Rescues, Elise Tewksbury, 512-738-6624 in Seguin Texas.
The family will receive condolences at Palmer Mortuary on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 5pm to 8pm.
A brief viewing will continue Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 10 am at Blanco United Methodist Church: 61 Pecan St. Blanco, Texas 78606. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 am and interment will be at Blanco Cemetery.
