Marilyn Arlene (Grove) Miller Sullivan, 87, of Delaware, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday March 12, 2025, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital.
She worshiped weekly at the Waldo Methodist Church since 2020 but was taken to the hospital from there on her last visit on February 2nd. Friends picking her up made that possible during her last few months.
Arlene was born October 1, 1937, in Crawford County, Ohio, the youngest daughter of four children born to Robert Ellsworth & Mayme Mae (Ross) Grove. Arlene graduated from Tiro High School in Crawford County as Valedictorian in 1955. She became engaged to her sweetheart F. Carey Miller as a junior in high school, and they were married on June 11, 1955. Arlene & Carey started their family, and lived in Plymouth, Ohio for several years, until making their way to Radnor, Ohio where they settled in 1965. Arlene and Carey raised their children in the Radnor Baptist Church in Radnor. They also started their own small farm, where they raised vegetables and livestock.
Carey passed on September 4, 1989, leaving behind his wife and five children. Arlene was also preceded in death by her parents, second husband Carl Sullivan, son Bart Eugene Miller in 2023, son-in-law Bobby Vann; great-grandson Robert Douglas Thacker; brother Robert Grove; sisters Leah Tooker and Corrine Pine.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, daughters Debbie (Rick) Ross, Judy (Carl) Miller, and Diane Vann; son Glenn (Tammy) Miller; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Arlene knew a good deal when she saw it and greatly enjoyed thrifting and finding a bargain. She was a gardener, mostly by necessity, and her kids learned from an early age that food came from hard work on the farm, not from the grocery store. Ironically, her last employer, of many, over the years was Kroger, Inc. She enjoyed meeting people wherever she went. She made sure she found out their names, and as much as she could about them, because she was a caring person. Arlene was very involved with many organizations over her lifetime, especially church and 4-H. She and Carey were 4-H advisors for over 20 years in Delaware County. In her spare time, she greatly enjoyed visiting with family and friends. In earlier years she could be coaxed to entertain by playing her accordion for her family. She also liked traveling, reading, playing Euchre and board games, with "Sequence" being her favorite. She actively served others both monetarily and with her time for as long as she was able. Her faith in the Lord was strong and steadfast, and she put her faith into action.
Friends may join the family on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at the Snyder Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive, Delaware, Ohio 43015. Pastor Gerald Frazee will officiate a funeral service, celebrating the significance of Arlene's life at 1:30 pm Sunday, March 23, 2025. Private Burial Services will take place at the convenience of the family at Radnor Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions in Arlene's honor may be directed towards The Waldo Methodist Church, PO Box 182, Waldo, OH 43356.
