Dr. Marilyn A. Nathan

CARY - Dr. Marilyn A. Nathan, aged 86, peacefully passed away as the sun rose on November 26, 2023. Marilyn was born on October 11, 1937, to the late Emil and Harriet Friedman in Manhattan, New York. Marilyn was the proud mother of Robin, David, and Lee (who preceded her in death).
In 1961 Marilyn relocated to Muncie, Indiana. She attended Ball State University and graduated with a degree in Art. She went on to teach Art with the Jay County School Corporation. Marilyn then returned to Ball State University where she obtained her PhD in Psychology. Later, Marilyn and Dr. Patsy Donn launched IDEC which they jointly owned and operated until 2018. Marilyn was a well-respected resident of Muncie and a life-long Member of Temple Beth El where she served in several different Board positions. Marilyn was also a Member of Altrusa, where she was extremely passionate about reading to the at-risk elementary school children.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her life partner, Dr. Patsy Donn. Survivors include her brother Steven Nathan of Georgia; her daughter Robin and her husband Glenn Viviano and their daughter Madison of North Carolina; her son David and wife Crystal of Georgia and their three sons, Joshua, Jordan (and wife Laura), and Jaron.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Raleigh, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the United Way of Delaware County.
