Marilyn Bounds Oden 83, of Blackwell passed away on November 20, 2025 with her husband at her side. Funeral Services for Marilyn will be on Saturday November 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Blackwell Methodist Church, Blackwell TX. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday at the church. The Burial will be held at Blackwell Cemetery in Blackwell. Caring for Marilyn and her family is McCoy Funeral Home.
Marilyn was a beloved Wife, Daughter, Mother, Aunt and most of all Grandma.
Marilyn was born in Sinton,TX.to Frank and Lillian Bounds on June 19,1942. Her Dad & Mom and her older sister Barbara lived on a farm near Odem, TX. Marilyn spent her childhood on a farm. She was a daddy girl going to Rodeos, roping and horse races. She loved horses and would slip out to the corral and coax a horse close to the fence and jump on. The family moved from Odem to Pecos, TX. in the early 50's where her dad had purchased an irrigation farm. The Odem area was in a deep drought and the irrigation farm in Pecos was a relief for her dad. Marilyn attended school in Pecos and graduated in 1960. She was a member of the Pecos Eagle Band and was selected as a Majorette. She still has many friends there. In the early 1970's she became single and left Pecos to attend North Texas State University. At NTSU she earned her master's degree in behavioral Modification and Apparatus design. She worked & studied until the early 1980's when she returned to Pecos.
Upon her return she took a position in the school system teaching Special Ed. She was an advocate for the special needs children. She helped the school system comply with Federal and State regulations. She worked in the school system until 1993.
Marilyn & Terry were married on June 8,1991. Marilyn had two sons Robert Walker and wife Carol, Cory Walker wife Lauren, and six grandchildren Katy Rice husband Patrick, Eryn Hurt and husband Jacob, Mason Walker wife Jubilee, Riley Ortega and husband Israel, Harleigh and John Teegarden,3 nieces & 1 nephew which led to 9 great nieces & nephews plus 13 great -great nieces and nephews. Terry's family added two daughters Becky Bauer and husband Welman, Stacy Cis and husband Larry, and three grandchildren Weston, Walker and Paige Bauer. Mother-in-Law Winnie and father-in-law T.J, two sisters-in-law, Lana & Kathy plus two brothers-in-law Larry & Joe Don and many nieces and nephews. She was known as Auntie "M".
Marilyn & Terry moved back to Oak Creek Lake in 2015, built a retirement home there.
Marilyn loved being a grandma, it was at the top of her list, she enjoyed watercolor painting, she loved the outdoors. She was an NRA member and strong supporter of the 2nd amendment. She loved to go to the gun range where she shot her .22 rifle &sighted in her hunting rifles. She had obtained her conceal carry permit while in Texas and then for Colorado. She enjoyed busting a few caps with her 38SPL. She liked to ride in the back country with her rifle with her. She spotted a Jeep at a local used car lot, and it was set up for back country driving so she bought it. She used the Jeep to explore the back roads & trails on several mountain passes in central & southern Colorado. The slick rock trails in Utah that would lead you to petroglyph panels. She loved to look at the early Native American art. She would then replicate it with her watercolors. She would visit a yearly spot that held a band of Mustangs, she had to check out the new fouls. Once back in Texas the grandkids were more available to come to the lake. She enjoyed watching them swim, fish and ride big Mable, shouting out words of encouragement while sipping on a Dr.Pepper!! Marilyn is preceded in death by parents Frank & Lillian, sister Barbara, and nephew Monty.
