Marilyn Pentkowski
Marilyn Ann Pentkowski of Fair Haven passed away on June 28th after a 35 year battle with cancer.
Marilyn was born on January 23, 1948 in Proctor, the daughter of Michael and Mary (Pecar)Illinski.
Marilyn was a 1966 graduate of Proctor (VT) High School.
She married Raymond Pentkowski in 1970.
Over the years she held a variety of positions including as a Teller at the former First National Bank in Fair Haven, working at retail stores in Manchester Vermont when her husband changed his position and working at Hobby Lobby in Rutland. She was employed several years at Hunter North doing Traffic Control.
She and her husband spent two years in Lexington, Kentucky, and that is where their son, Raymond II, was born. Returning to Vermont, Marilyn resided in Fair Haven for 51 years(except for two years living in Arlington, Vermont).
Marilyn attended Green Mountain College in Poultney. Vermont for two years as a non-traditional student and then spent two years taking classes at the former Castleton State College--graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.
People will never know all that Marilyn did to help others--especially children. Halloween was one of he special days--when over 300 children visited her house for "goodies". Marilyn "adopted" many stray cats over the years. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and liked to visit the Saratoga Casino to play the penny games
She is survived by her husband Raymond of Fair Haven, her son Raymond II of Ocala, Florida, her grandson Eric Pentkowski of Ocala, her sister Elaine Skjetne(husband Bjarne)of Proctor, her brother Michael of California, her sister-in-law Judy Gildersleeve(Husband Peter) of Proctor, her brother-in-law David (wife Mary Jane) of Clifton Park, New York, a special cousin John Poljacik of Pittsfield, VT, brother-on-law David Gildersleeve ( wife Terri) of Rutland, special nieces and nephews Courtney and her husband Satish, Kayla, James and Bryan, and several additional nieces nephews, and cousin
She was pre-deceased by her parents and brother-in-laws Ted and Edwin
At Marilyn's request, there will be no calling hours. A Mass will be held 11AM Friday July, 12, 2024 at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Church in Fair Haven.
Arrangements are with the Durfee Funeral Home.
