Marilyn "Mal" Peterson, 88, of Momence, IL, died on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the Bourbonnais Grove Assisted Living in Bourbonnais, IL. She was born on July 21, 1937, in Kankakee, IL, the daughter of Fred and Dorothy Ricketts Jensen. She married Jack E. Peterson on August 4, 1956, in Momence, IL. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1995.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law; Susan and Larry Ekhoff of Grant Park, IL, and Ann Peterson and Steve Lanzendorf of Sudbury, MA. Her son and daughter-in-law; Jack and Janet Peterson of Lowell, IN. Her sister and brother-in-law; Linda and Ed Carter of Momence, IL. Also surviving six grandchildren; Jessica Peterson, Matthew (Lishuai "Sophie") Ekhoff, Sam Ekhoff (Melissa Smith), Claire Lanzendorf, Evan Lanzendorf, and Julia Lanzendorf. Three great grandchildren; Jai Peterson, Travis Ekhoff and Shawn Ekhoff. Her two nieces; Lori Carter and Janie (Wade) Weiss, and two nephews; Mark (Sheila) Carter and Bob (Debbie) Carter. Her good friends; Mary Newberry (and cousin) and Karen Hughes. She is survived by many other nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, and grandson; Justin Peterson
She owned and operated Peterson Insurance and was a manager at John A. Parish Insurance. She attended St. Patrick Academy from first grade through high school, and also attended Mundelein College.
Mal was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church. She served also on the Parish Council and School Board for the St. Patrick Academy.
She enjoyed playing all sports, but was an avid baseball player in her youth.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
