Marilyn M. Rakacky, 92, of Estero, Florida, passed away peacefully at her residence on November 3, 2025, after an extended illness.
Born on Christmas Day in 1932 in Sleepy Hollow, New York, Marilyn was the daughter of the late William T. and Olga (née Guzy) Maher. She was a graduate of North Tarrytown High School and went on to attend the Katherine Gibbs School in New York City, where she earned her medical transcription degree.
Marilyn began her career working for three specialists at an internal medical group before marrying the love of her life, Joseph W. Rakacky, on April 22, 1961. Following their marriage, she worked as the secretary to the Vice President at Ciba-Geigy in Ardsley, New York. After the birth of her first daughter, Marilyn devoted herself to her family as a full-time homemaker and later welcomed two more daughters.
A dedicated and compassionate woman, Marilyn remained active in her community through her volunteer work with the United Way and her service as a North Tarrytown Republican District Leader for many years. In 1991, when Joseph retired from the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, the couple relocated to Estero, Florida, where they have since made their home.
Marilyn will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 64 years, Joseph W. Rakacky, and their three beloved daughters: Anne Lusty (Philip) of York, Maine; Joan Yurczak (Michael) of Fort Myers, Florida; and Clare Richard (Judson) of Salisbury, Massachusetts. She also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren-Michael, Christopher, Daniel, Meghan, and Andrew-and three great-grandchildren, Gavin, Elliott, and Shaun.
A memorial service celebrating Marilyn's life will be held at a future date and will be announced.
