Marilyn U. Searles, 90, of Endwell, NY, passed away Friday, April 4, 2025, at Good Shepherd, in Endwell. She was the daughter of the late James and Nina (Willis) Urquhart and was predeceased by her three brothers, Willis, James, and John Urquhart - who at the age of 20 gave his life during World War II after being shot down over China while serving in the United States Army Air Force. Marilyn was also predeceased by her husband Frederick Searles in 2011 after 49 years of marriage.
Marilyn is survived by her three sons, Mark Searles of Endwell, Scott Searles and his wife Kelsey of Franklin, TN, and David Searles of Dunedin, FL. She also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren who she loved dearly; Luci, Patrick, Emma, Ali and Quinn Searles, nieces Debbie Urquhart, Ann Farr and Jean Farr Gorton. She was predeceased by her nephew Jack Urquhart. Marilyn also had many close friends she considered part of her family. Her love and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Born in Binghamton, NY, and raised in Elmira, NY, she lived in Oklahoma, Liverpool, NY, and for the past 46 years, resided in Endwell. Marilyn graduated from Southside High School, in Elmira and from the Elmira Business Institute. She worked in Elmira for the telephone company before dedicating her life as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Marilyn had a deep love for her family, friends, flowers, birds, and all animals. She was a proud member of the Endwell Garden Club for forty years. In later years, she found great joy in watching birds and wildlife gather at the feeders outside her cottage at Good Shepherd Village. She also treasured the new friendships she formed at Good Shepherd and always enjoyed visits from Liz and Bridget.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Harris and Suzy for their support over the years. A special thank you also goes to the staff at Good Shepherd Assisted Living for the compassionate care they provided - treating Marilyn as one of their own, just as she treated them like family.
Marilyn requested a private graveside service to be held with her immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to your local animal shelter – an act that would have brought Marilyn great joy.
