Marilyn Sharp Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cartmell-Davis Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc. - Main Office on Nov. 5, 2024.
Marilyn Alice Sharp (Teves), 67 years old, of East Falmouth died of a short term illness surrounded by her family late November 3, 2024.
Marilyn was born in Newark, NJ to Charles H. Teves Jr. and Mildred Teves (Thompson). She attended Verona High School, Montclair State University, and then went on to complete her Masters degree at University of Massachusetts Amherst. Once out of her master's program, Marilyn began to work at the Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (ARIEM) at Natick Labs; Natick, MA. While working there she also happened to meet her future husband Mark Sharp.
Mark and Marilyn would then play numerous intramural volleyball games, travel the world, and built a beautiful life together always within an hour of the beach. A Jersey girl at heart, Marilyn spent her youth at the jersey shore and her adult life on the cape either on the beach or in the boat. Marilyn and Mark love to be on the water and worked with the Falmouth Shellfish Volunteer Program to help improve the shellfish population while helping to restore the cleanliness of the ocean. An active member of her church, Marilyn was constantly volunteering and spreading fellowship throughout her community. She would donate her time through teaching classes to adult English Language Learners, driving local seniors in her community, and organizing her church's Christmas sale. When she wasn't riding her bike on her usual 30-100 miles, you could find Marilyn on the deck with a glass of red wine, popcorn, and a book to read.
Professionally, Marilyn worked at ARIEM where she was head investigator on developing the Occupational Physical Assistant Test (OPAT) which helps set the standards necessary for soldiers (male and female) to perform in combat Military Operation Specialties (MOS). The OPAT is now the standard test used in the military today. A leader in her field, Marilyn helped mentor many young professionals; many of whom would turn into lifelong friends.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Mark Sharp, her children Daniel Sharp and his wife Samantha Sharp (Young) of Dahinda, IL; Sarah Maurer (Sharp) and her husband Peter Maurer of Franklin, MA; and Ryan Sharp and his wife Jocelyn Sharp of Marlborough, MA. A loving mother, Marilyn was extremely compassionate and kind to all. Her compassion extends out to her grandchildren Bryce Sharp, Griffin Sharp, Madison Nelson, Isabella Nelson, and Gus Sharp. She is preceded in death by her oldest sibling Margret Corwith (Teves) and survived by Margret's husband Foster Corwith II of Santa Barbara, CA, sister Nancy Lewis (Teves) and her husband Russell Lewis of Port St. Lucie, FL, sister Barbara Silvinske (Teves) and her husband Bruce Silvinske of Boynton Beach, FL, and her brother Thomas Teves and his wife Caren Teves (Iacovelli) of Pheonix, AZ.
Loved by so many people, Marilyn will always be admired and remembered for her strong, kind, and practical spirit.
A celebration of life will be held at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 270 Gifford Street, Falmouth, MA 02540 on December 30th at 2:00 for friends and family.
In lieu of flowers her family asks for donations to John Westley United Methodist Church, 270 Gifford St, Falmouth, MA 02540 or www.johnwesleyumc.org/index.php/about-us/online-giving/

I grew up with Marilyn in Verona, NJ. I will always remember her back flips while cheering. I will always remember her smile and laugh. May she rest in eternal peace. I just finished watching her Celebration of Life service....she led such a wonderful life. I hope all the memories shared will help her family heal through this difficult time.

My husband John and I have only known Marilyn for the 8 years we have lived in Mashpee, Ma. and attended John Wesley United Methodist Church.
We loved her enthusiasm, positive attitude, her smile and her love of life. She lit up a room with her kindness and bright spirit. We will miss her forever.
