Marilyn Smith, affectionately known as Susie, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on June 13, 1936, she lived a life defined by kindness, devotion, and quiet strength.
Marilyn's deepest joy was found in her bond with her only child, her cherished son, Gregg. He was the heart of her world, and her unwavering devotion to him reflected a lifetime defined by love. Her love extended beyond her family, reaching lifelong friends whose bonds with her were a testament to her loyal, kind, and genuine character. Maintaining these friendships over the years spoke to her warmth, her steadfast devotion, and the trust and love she naturally inspired.
A woman of remarkable intelligence and determination, Marilyn graduated high school at just 16 years old. She began her adult life by moving from Pennsylvania to Buffalo, where she worked as a nanny. There, she continued her education at Bryant & Stratton and later settled in
Rochester, Ny. She went on to dedicate her career to various programs for the City of Rochester, always motivated by a desire to help and serve others. Her professional life mirrored the generosity and care she showed in her personal life, always quietly striving to make a difference.
Marilyn possessed a gentle soul, a giving heart, and a warm sense of humor that could lift spirits effortlessly. She had a rare gift for making people feel loved and supported, offering advice or simply a listening ear with kindness, affection, and never a hint of judgment. Those who knew her felt valued, understood, and comforted in her presence. Whether in family, friendship, or community, she left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Marilyn's family was her greatest treasure. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Gregg, and her devoted daughter-in-law, Melanie, whose care and tenderness, especially during Marilyn's illness, brought her profound comfort and joy, as well as her six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense happiness. Her love for them radiated endlessly, and her guidance, warmth, and laughter will live on through each of them.
Marilyn cherished her nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, who always made her feel included and loved. She delighted in their lives, celebrated their milestones, and treasured every moment spent together. Among those she held dear were Jeanetta, Pete, Robert, Chris, Kerry, Nikki, Paul, Joel, Jimmy, and so many others.
Her faith, humility, and compassion guided her every action, and her life was a living example of love in its truest form. Marilyn's spirit will continue to shine through the lives she touched, the love she shared so freely, and the joy she brought to others.
Marilyn "Susie" Smith's life was a beautiful testament to devotion, generosity, and affection, and her memory will forever remain a blessing.
