Marilyn E. Wasil, age 83, of Garrettsville, Ohio passed away February 17, 2024, at UH Geauga Hospital in Chardon. She was born September 27, 1940, in Cleveland, to the late Frank and Lillian Shipman (nee Rice).
After graduating from Baldwin-Wallace College, Marilyn became an elementary teacher working at Buckeye, North Royalton, and Parma City Schools. It was at one of her first teaching jobs that she met and fell in love with school principal, Stephen Wasil. They were married in 1965 and remained together for 41 years until Steve’s passing in 2006. Marilyn loved playing French horn with The Parma Symphony Orchestra and more recently the Hiram College Band. She sang with several choral groups including the Hiram Women’s Chorus. Marilyn enjoyed the simple things in life like a good cup of coffee, drawing, playing the piano, instant lottery tickets, crocheting and mending.
Marilyn is survived by 3 daughters, Kathleen Gunter, of Conway, Arkansas, Linda Proctor, of Garrettsville, and Stephanie (Christopher) Hope, of Fairview Park; five grandchildren, Madison, Livia, Sarah, Abigail and Jaiden, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Wasil; brother, William Shipman, and her son-in-law, Michael Gunter.
Per Marilyn’s wishes, she is to be cremated. She will be inurned privately at a later date in Park Cemetery in Garrettsville.
