Marilynn Elsma Reece

Marilynn Hultquist Reece, age 84, of Chicago, IL, and more recently, of Kitty Hawk, NC, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026. Born in Chicago, IL, on October 2, 1941, to the late Elmer Hultquist and Anna Mae Pavis Hultquist, she was the widow of Thomas Howard Reece.

Marilynn knew she was going to be an elementary school teacher from an early age and spent over 30 years inspiring students within the Chicago Public School System. She dedicated her life to teaching both in and out of the classroom, enthusiastically sharing her enjoyment of crochet, painting, ceramics, and crafting with students and family alike. Marilynn had a unique ability to connect with people from all walks of life and share her passions. She truly was a friend to everyone she met.

She is survived by a son, Eric Thomas Reece and wife, Christina Mackenzie; three grandchildren, Allegra, Kai, and Jasper; and two sisters, her twin sister, Margaret Saphir and husband John, and Ruth Fogg. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Thomson, and a brother, Robert Hultquist.

Her creative talents, conversational prowess, and effusive loving nature will be fondly remembered by family and friends. Marilynn made an indelible impression on anyone who had the good fortune to know her.

A Celebration of Life will take place in Chicago, IL, in March.
