Mario Alvarez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Leonard-Lee Funeral Home on Mar. 3, 2026.
Mario M. Alvarez, 67, of Linden, New Jersey, passed away on March 1, 2026, after a long and difficult battle with chronic illness.

The family will receive friends at the Leonard-Lee Funeral Home, 301 E. Blancke Street, Linden, on Friday, March 6, 2026 from 10am to 12pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home at 11:30am.

Mario was born to the late Mario and Elena (Rua) Alvarez in Camaguey, Cuba on December 10th, 1958, where he spent his early childhood until the family's move to Elizabeth, NJ. Mario attended Roselle Catholic, and went on to earn a degree in Marketing from Kean University. He worked in customer service at a number of local chemical companies before his early retirement in 2014.

Mario was an athlete - a disco dancer, a baseball player, a Mets fan, an amateur landscaper, and a resourceful DIY-er. When he wasn't on the move, he was an avid reader and film buff, with a steel-trap memory for any actor's name and filmography. Above all, he was a father who enjoyed Sunday dinners with his family, outings with close friends, and hosting large cookouts for family and friends alike.

His memory will be carried on by his loving family. He is survived by his twin sister Maria Elena Aracil and her partner Mariano Perez; his daughter Sarah and co-parent Maritza Konray; his nieces Ellen, Catherine, Natalie and nephew Mark.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hackensack Meridian Hospice (givehmh.org/hospice).
