Marion Louise Dade was born at Columbia Hospital in Washington D.C. on January 8, 1944. She is one of three children born to the late Joseph and Vera Woodard. Marion entered eternal rest on August 9, 2025.
Marion attended primary and high school in Washington, D.C. Shortly after graduating, she received a certificate in Practical Nursing and started her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Marion worked at Washington Hospital Center for 11 years, the Va Hospital for 18 months and Providence Medical Professional Building for a few years. After working for Surgical Associates for 27 ½ years, Marion retired from the medical field in 2011. She enjoyed her nursing career and her patients loved her. Her dedication to her career was fueled by the joy she felt helping others. She was a highly respected and beloved nurse.
Marion's Christian journey began at the age of 8, when she joined Israel Metropolitan C.M.E. Church. In 1999, under the leadership of Reverend Wendell Oldham, she recommitted her life to Christ and was baptized. She faithfully served as a Stewardess, was a member of the Faith Whittington Esther Missionary Circle and a teacher for Children's Church on the 4th Sunday of the month. She loved attending Bible study and often shared her testimony of God's faithfulness in her life. Marion's ministry was centered around sending cards and scriptures to her church family, whom she deeply loved.
Marion was married to Warren S. Dade for 13 years, and from that union came two children, Anthony Stanley Dade and Kimberly Yolanda Dade. She enjoyed being a mother and loved her children deeply, supporting them in all their endeavors and celebrating each of their achievements. Marion was lovingly known as 'everybody's mom', often opening her home to her children's friends and family. She offered guidance, encouragement, and prayers to all who entered her life. Her love was like a gentle breeze on a bright sunny day – comforting, refreshing and always welcomed.
Throughout her life, and especially in her retirement, Marion found joy in traveling, going to the movies, spending New Years Day with her sister Darlene, and watching her favorite crime dramas. She delighted in sharing a good meal at different restaurants, but what she cherished most was the time spent with her grandchildren. Caring for her family was not just something she did - it was the heart of who she was.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents; Joseph and Vera Woodard; her sister Darlene Harris, her brother William A. Woodard (Sonny), and her Son-in-Law Anthony C. Chase Sr. (Tony).
She leaves to cherish in her memory; her beloved children, Anthony S. Dade and Kimberly Y. Chase, (Honorary daughter) Ayanna (Ewing) Mensah; her greatly loved grandchildren, Jawanza Taliaferro Dade and Devon Michael Chase, bonus grandson: Anthony Chase, Jr., bonus great grandchildren Daisaun Chase, Ameriah Chase, and Tailiyah Chase Nephews; Garrett Woodard, Kenneth Harris Jr. and Rahn Dade, Nieces; Lisa (Dade) Pennix, April (Woodard) Brown. Lucille McRant lifelong best friend. Special like daughters: Kelly Anderson, Lily Lee, Yolanda Stout, Tammy Barnes and Ingrid Williams.
Marion will be remembered for her dignity, grace, and compassion. She poured her love into her family, touched countless lives with kindness, and lived each day with a steadfast devotion to Jesus Christ. Her presence will be deeply missed, yet her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
