Marion Freeman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown Funeral Home - Gloster on Feb. 11, 2026.
Marion R. Freeman passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on Sunday, February 8, 2026. A lifelong native and resident of Gloster, Mississippi, Marion was born on August 9, 1943, to John Roger Dawson and Flora Mae Brantley Dawson.

Marion dedicated more than 20 years of service to Fisher Services. She began her career as a receptionist and, through hard work and determination, rose through the ranks to become Office Manager and later Human Resources Manager before retiring. She took great pride in her work and the relationships she built along the way.

Family was at the center of Marion's life. She loved playing softball, cards, and dominos with her family, and she especially adored hearing her husband, Rex's, "snicker" during their time together. She was known for being outspoken and unapologetically herself - a trait that often humorously landed her in "Facebook jail." Her bold spirit and quick wit will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Marion also loved music. She cherished singing with her children, and in her younger years, she and her sister Lorraine sang together on a local radio station - a memory she held dear.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Rex Freeman; her sons, Stephen and Hank Freeman; four sisters, Lemoyne Whittington, Louise Freeman, Lorraine Black, and Angela Burkett; and one brother, John Roger "D.D." Dawson.

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure her memory: her daughter, Janeen Duhe' (Troy); her grandsons, Casey Rushing (Courtney) and Blake Rushing; her great-grandson, Rex Rushing; and her great-granddaughter, Nora Rushing, expected in July. She is also survived by three sisters, Gwen Collier, Sherry Cook, and Kathy Thomas (Jerry); one brother, Kevin Dawson (Becky); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marion's strength, humor, and unwavering love for her family will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

Visitation is Friday, February 13, 2026 at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster, MS. from 11:00 A.M. until time of funeral services at 2:00 P.M. Friday, at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Kevin Dixon. Graveside service will follow at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Casey Rushing, Blake Rushing, Gerald Etheridge, Tyson Etheridge, Kadin Hughey, and Dylan Thomas. Honorary pallbearers are Greg Black and Jerry McKey
