Marion Thomas “Tom” Hayes, age 82, of Olive Branch, passed away at his home on Saturday, October 28, 2023. He was born in Centerville, IA on July 30, 1941 to the late Orville and Vera (Anderson) Hayes.
Tom joined the United States Marine Corp after graduating from high school. He served for four years, in which he had been stationed in Alaska and Camp Pendleton and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Prior to this, he had a paper route for many years as a child, and he enjoyed fishing and hunting, which also helped to provide for his family. After he left the Marine Corp, he was a pressman at A. S. Hospitality in Memphis for many years. Tom loved to tell stories about his friends and growing up in Iowa, and he loved sci-fi and western movies, and he loved to make people laugh.
In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Janice (Thompson) Hayes, brothers Bill Hayes, Harold Hayes, and Leroy Hayes, and sister Margaret Hayes.
Tom will be lovingly remembered by his son Mark Hayes (Amy) and daughter Dee Thomas (Donald), grandchildren Savannah Thomas and Matthew Hayes, sisters Joyce Vote (Norm), Janice Grenko (Edward), Linda Paris (Wayne), and Laura Ocker (Edward) and his brothers Paul Hayes and Richard Hayes.
