Marion Huff Obituary

Marion E. "Gene" Huff, 79, of Clarkesville, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
Mr. Huff was born on December 25, 1945, in Marietta, Georgia, to the late John K. Huff and Olive Frisbee Huff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Huff Knowles; brothers, Melvin Huff, and Donald Huff. Gene served his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps from February 7, 1966, to February 6, 1969, during his service, he spent 13 months in the Vietnam War, fulfilling his duty as a Radio Relay Operator. Following his military service, Gene pursued a career in auto mechanics where his expertise and passion for fixing things flourished. He dedicated 18 years of his life to teaching auto mechanics at South Cobb High School and later at East Hall High School for seven years until his retirement in 2007. Gene was a true "jack of all trades" and if you gave him a hammer and nails, he could build or fix just about anything. His craftsmanship extended beyond his professional life; he took great joy in using his skills to create and build for his family. Known for driving a pick-up truck, Gene firmly believed that if you owned a home, you should own a truck. In his leisure time, Gene found solace in watching "gray" movies, as his grandson fondly called them, as they were classic black and white westerns that Gene deeply enjoyed. Above all, Gene will be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, and a remarkable grandfather known affectionately as "Pa."
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Judy Bell Huff, of Clarkesville; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sheila Huff, of Chesapeake, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Marty Dillashaw, of Clarkesville; grandchildren, Chase Dillashaw, Emily Dillashaw, Robert Brant, Kristy Lawrence; sister, Louise Bartlett, of Carrolton; sister-in-law, Linda Turner, of Blairsville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at noon on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, with Rev. Rone "Ikey" Watson and Rev. Grady Walden officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps and the Grant Reeves Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 26, 2025, and again from 11-11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, prior to the service, both at the funeral home.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Whitfield Funeral Homes and Crematory, North Chapel.
