Marion J. Jones, age 99, of McKenzie, Tennessee passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025 at Cherrywood Post Nursing Home of McKenzie. His funeral service will be 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at McEvoy Funeral Home with Bro. James Hazelwood of Bethel Baptist Church in McKenzie, officiating. Named as pallbearers are, Tommy Updyke, Justin Woodman, Mark Woodman, Chase Updyke, Chad Updyke, Chandler Updyke, Jake Updyke, and Cameron Updyke; and honorary pallbearers, Marty Woodman, J.J. Jones, Mariah McCallister, and Julie Updyke. Burial will follow in Public Well Cemetery in Martin.
Visitation is scheduled on Thursday, after 11:00 A.M. until time of service at 3:00 P.M.
Marion Jones was born July 27, 1926 in Henry County, Tennessee to the late John C. Jones and the late Lee Hogue Jones. He married the love of his life, Dorothy "Dot" McGehee Jones on July 27, 1946 and she preceded him in death on May 23, 2011. He leaves behind quite a family heritage, including his daughter, Diane (Dennis) Updyke of McKenzie; grandchildren, Mark (Andrea) Woodman, Marty (Cindy) Woodman, Tommy (Kelly) Updyke, Julie (April Sutton) Updyke, Monica Jones, Chad Updyke, and Gunnery Sergeant (RET) Jeffrey J. Jones; great-grandchildren, Brandon Woodman, Adam Woodman, Justin Woodman, Mariah McCallister, Taylor Williams, Katie Childre, Christiano Ramos, Chase Updyke, Chandler Updyke, Hunter Updyke, Cameron Updyke and Jake Updyke; great-great-grandchildren, Peyton Woodman, Reeves Childre, Hattie Childre, Knox Woodman, Harlee McCallister, Ripp McCallister, and Emma Harden; son-in-law, Doug Woodman of Paris; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, dear neighbors including Terry Buffalo and many friends.
Besides his parents and wife, Marion is also preceded in death by his daughter, Darlene Woodman; his sons, Richard S. Jones and Jeffrey A. Jones; his sisters, Dorthy, Elaine, Virginia, and Brooksy; and his brother, Orel.
Mr. Jones was a Baptist by faith and was a member Bethel Baptist Church in McKenzie. Marion was a farmer in his community for many years, worked and retired from the Henry County Vocational School as head custodian. He dearly loved his family, but most especially his grandchildren and they mirrored that love back to him. It was well known to family and close friends that Marion's "Happy Place" was bush hogging on his tractor.
The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to Rachael and the staff of Cherrywood Post for the kindness and care shown to Marion and request that memorial gifts be made to the City of Paris Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 639, Paris, TN 38242.
