Mr. Marion Julius Robbins, 80, of Boiling Springs, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. Born on June 18th, 1943, Marion was the son of the late Spurgeon and Eva Butel Mitchem Robbins and was the husband of the late Joan Pike Robbins. Marion was also predeceased by a daughter, Donna Robbins, and several siblings.
Marion grew up in Spartanburg County and worked most of his adult life in the textile industry before retiring from Mohawk Industries in 2011. He was a hard worker and even after long shifts, he always made time to help cook a meal for his family on Sundays- a long-standing family tradition since he and Joan wed in 1988. He was a lifelong learner with a sharp mind and a man of Christian faith. His favorite pastimes included ginseng hunting, growing a summer garden, working the crosswords, biblical trivia, Duke basketball, weekly visits to Rainbow Corner and Belue's, and watching "his pastor", Charles Stanley, preach on Saturday nights. Papa (as he was lovingly known as) will long be missed and loved by all those who knew him well.
Marion is survived by his step-children: Stephen Atkins (Joy), Teressa Atkins Coggins, Candice Thornton McCombs (Kenneth); grandchildren: Taylor Atkins, Emily Atkins, Cassady Coggins Groom (Jon), Ken McCombs III (Erin), Krysta McCombs (fiancé, Brenton Profera), Ethan McCombs, and April Simmons; great-grandchildren: Caleb Groom, Ruby Groom, Ella McCombs, and Grayson McCombs; and his siblings: Kathy Panter, Lyngaye Powers, and Sam Robbins.
The family wishes to thank Hospice and Mobile Meals for their care over the last nine months. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
