Marion Spence Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dennard First National Funeral Home - Winnsboro on Mar. 12, 2026.
Funeral services for Rev. Marion Spence, 75, of Crowville, LA will be 2 PM Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Waverly Baptist Church with Dr. Alan Miller, Rev. Jay Morgan, Rev. Brian Rogers, and Rev. Kevin Harper officiating.

Visitation will be 5-7 PM Friday March 13, 2026, at Dennard Funeral Home, and 1 – 2 PM Saturday March14,2026, at Waverly Baptist Church all under the direction of Dennard First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro, LA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion John Spence and Nancy "Nannie" Elizabeth Cox Spence, eight brothers, two sisters, mother and father in-law and several in-laws.

Marion is survived by his wife of 46 years Susan T. Spence, son Brandon Spence and his wife Tammi; daughter Julie Rogers and her husband Brian; grandchildren Aaron Bowman, Collin Bowman, Rileigh Bowman, Eli Rogers, Lydia Rogers, Ezra Rogers, and Armani Rogers; sisters Carrie Ruth Thornton, Sandra Mulkey, Betty Willis and husband Buddy Ann Tibbett, and Roxie Blanco and husband Carlos; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

For decades, Marion faithfully served as a pastor, shepherding countless individuals and families with wisdom, compassion, and unwavering devotion to Christ. His life was marked by a deep calling to ministry and a genuine love for people. Whether standing behind a pulpit, sitting beside someone in a time of need, or offering quiet encouragement, he faithfully pointed others toward hope, grace, and the love of Jesus. His ministry was not confined to the walls of a church. In

grocery stores, sale barns, hospitals, restaurants, or any where a conversation could begin, he was known to ask a simple but heartfelt question: "Do you know Jesus?" Sharing his faith with others was not just something he did-it was who he was.

Beyond the church, Marion was also a devoted cattle farmer. He found great joy working the land, caring for his herd, and embracing the rhythms of farm life. The pasture became another place where his character shone -marked by patience, hard work, and quiet faithfulness. In many ways, the same heart that shepherded people in the church was reflected in the way he cared for the land and the animals entrusted to him.

Above all, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His greatest pride was his family. He treasured time with his children and grandchildren, celebrating their lives, offering guidance, and creating memories that will continue to shape generations.

Those who knew Marion remember a man of strong faith, humble service, and quiet strength. His life touched far more people than could ever be counted - through sermons preached, prayers offered, conversations shared, and kindness freely given.

While we grieve his absence, we do so with deep assurance of the hope he proclaimed for so many years. We know he is now in the presence of Jesus, whom he loved and served faithfully, and that the legacy of faith, love, and service he leaves behind will continue to bear fruit for generations to come.

Pallbearers will be Jake Casiday, Jarred Casiday, Lynn Casiday, Todd Casiday, Mark Scurria, and Massey Shelton.

Honorary Pallbearers are the Deacons and Yoke Fellows of Waverly Baptist Church, Delhi Men's Prayer Group, his grandsons, Larry Casiday, and nephews of the Spence family.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Waverly Baptist Church or charity of choice.
