Marion Weyna Obituary

Marion Weyna
Marion Bernadette (Klos) Weyna, age 89, died in her home in Crystal Lake, Illinois, on August 20, 2022, after a short illness.
Marion had been married to Phil, who preceded her on May 20, 2021. They met in 1951, when they both stood up at the same wedding. They were married in 1954 and enjoyed a happy marriage that lasted more than 66 years. Marion was lost without Phil for the last 15 months.
Marion is survived by their four children, favorite eldest daughter, Terry (Fred White), favorite daughter, who is herself a grandmother, Peg Godfrey (Larry), favorite son, Paul (Beth), and favorite daughter, who lives in New York, Ruth Nightengale (Eric). Marion is also survived by six beautiful and smart grandchildren, Will Godfrey, Amanda (Godfrey) Truelove, Matthew Weyna, Kathy Ann Weyna, James Nightengale and Thomas Nightengale; and five attractive and intelligent great-grandchildren, Miriam, Catherine, John Henry, and Lucy Truelove and Alder Godfrey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marian and Wanda Klos, and two sisters, Rose Schwalbe and Wanda E. Klos.
Marion and Phil believed that having a family was what life was all about. They were involved and caring parents who were deeply loved by their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marion's children especially remember her unwavering support, and how she read to them, encouraged them to read on their own, and always picked out the best books at the library for them to read.
Marion was a stay-at-home mom for many years, until her youngest daughter Ruth started school. She then volunteered for several years at the Coventry School Learning Center. She started working for Crystal Lake Oral Surgery as a clerical assistant but ultimately became the office manager, and seemingly the mother to everyone who worked with her. Finally, she spent several years working as a secretarial assistant at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Phil and Marion both retired in the early 1990s, and greatly enjoyed their increased time together and with their family, as well as their time in Naples, Florida, where they spent more than ten winters.
A devoted parishioner at St. Thomas for more than 60 years, Marion acted as a lector, a role at which she showed considerable talent. She was also an active member of the St. Anthony's Guild.
Marion was kind to everyone she ever met, the sort of person who would tell you at the grocery store that your earrings were fabulous even if she'd never met you. She did her best to make everyone she encountered happier than they were before they spoke with her. And she was quite a card shark, playing a killer game of May I!
A visitation will be held at Davenport Funeral Home, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake on Thursday, August 25, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral mass will take place at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., on Friday, August 26, at 10:00 a.m. with a burial to follow at Crystal Lake Memorial Park.

Marion and Phil sat behind me at 8:30 Daily Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle for years. ALWAYS holding hands and very much in love. Both were so proud of their children, grandchildren and great grandbabies. I enjoyed speaking with them before and after Mass. They gave me tremendous advice on numerous occasions, and always gifted me with prayers and kindness.

They were a true joy in my life and the model of Christ alive in a marriage. I am honored to have called Marion and Phil, friend! I know Marion missed Phil and my heart rejoices that they are together again. My sincere condolences to the family.
