Maritza Lopez, also known to those close to her as Ritz, Sasha, and Vieja was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great friend. She passed away to be with the Lord on November 9th at the age of 59 in the loving care of her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Maritza was a true warrior.
Maritza was born in the Women's Hospital in Manhattan, New York on February 25th, 1965. She is survived by two sisters, two brothers, her father, three children, two grandchildren, one niece, and three nephews. Maritza grew up in the Bronx, New York and graduated from Lehman High School. She moved to Titusville, Florida in 1996 with her family and worked at Brevard Community College doing the work that she loved in a helping capacity. She assisted many students with pursuing their formal education and following their dreams. While holding a full-time job and raising her children, she went on to pursue her Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Central Florida and then her Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling at Webster University.
These are a few examples of the perseverance, ambition, discipline, and strength Maritza always had. She strived to grow for the betterment of her family and never settled. Despite the challenges she encountered and her ongoing health struggles, she remained steadfast in her faith and continued to pursue her dreams with determination. Her life was a true testament to the Lord's work and strength. She battled cancer for 13 years and God helped her to stay strong.
Maritza had a true passion to help other's and a servant's heart. She loved going to the beach, spending time with her family and friends, and loving on her grandchildren. She found peace in gardening and watching her plants thrive. She had a dear love for her dog Lucy and enjoyed watching the beautiful birds in Florida. Her sense of humor and wittiness was one of a kind. She had a fiery spirit and always had a smile on her face. Her love for the Lord was evident to all those who knew her and she touched the lives of so many.
Maritza had a contagious love. She will forever be remembered as a beautiful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, someone who never took no for an answer and a woman with an unsurmountable faith in God.
