Marium Walker Crider Selke, aged 101, passed away peacefully at her home in Broadway, Virginia on April 8, 2024.
Born on July 8, 1922, in Fulks Run, Virginia, she was the daughter of David and Marie Crider.
Marium and her eight siblings grew up in Fulks Run working on the family farm. As a young woman she accepted a job in Washington, D.C. and moved to Mt. Rainer, Md. This is where she met and married her beloved husband, Raymond Selke. They moved to Seabrook, Md. where Marium enjoyed raising her children. In retirement, they decided to move back home and settled in the town of Broadway, VA. Marium loved nature and had a green thumb. She spent much of her time outside with her bird feeders and in the yard tending to her vegetables and flowers. She was known for her banana trees which were featured in the local newspaper in an article titled "Broadway Goes Bananas". If she wasn't outside, Marium could be found working word search puzzles, drawing, or painting. She attended art classes and often made personalized cards for family and friends. Marium loved the Lord. She was thankful each day of her blessings and worked to serve Him any way she could. She enjoyed reading her Bible and listening to Christian music and was a member of Sunset Drive United Methodist Church. Marium also enjoyed attending weekly Bible Study classes with her sister Martha.
Marium was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond, daughter Daryle Dade (Walter), sisters Roberta and Lula, brothers, William Alton, David, Henry, and Jacob Crider.
She is survived by her children, Raymond T. Selke (Janet), Gerald Selke (Peggy), and Daniel Crider-Selke, her siblings, Mildred Lucille Jacksie and Martha Henderson, her grandchildren Chuck (Diane) Dade, Kimberly (Bruce) Burton, Kelly (Will) Silvers, Dink (Eric) Ridenour, Chris (Leisle) Selke, and Derek (Heather) Selke, her cherished great- and great-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Marium was so proud of her family and loved the years God gave her with them.
Friends may sign the guestbook and pay respects on Thursday from 9AM – 8PM, with family being present in the evening hours, and Friday from 10-11AM at Grandle Funeral Home, Broadway, VA. The funeral service will be at Grandle Funeral Home, Friday, April 12 at 11 AM. Marium will be laid to rest at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Harrisonburg, VA following the service.
