Marjorie Baxter Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 9, 2025.
Beloved grandmother, mother, and wife, Marjorie Louise Grannan Baxter, 70, passed away on December 7, 2025, at home, surrounded by her loved ones. Nana B, as she was known by her grandkids, or Margie, by friends, was a whiz at word games and a lover of cats – who tended to adopt her rather than the other way around. Nana B kept a warm home and was a great cook – hospitality for her family was her love language.

She was born in Evansville, Indiana, on September 28, 1955, and relocated with her parents and 3 older brothers to Memphis, Tennessee, at 3 months of age. Here she attended Our Lady of Sorrows School and Memphis Catholic High School, graduating in 1973. She married Ray David Baxter in 1974, and together they proudly raised three daughters. Once their children became school-aged, she completed a degree in Computer Programming and joined FedEx, where she enjoyed a long career programming mainframe computers.

Nana B will be remembered for her sharp wit & appreciation for the funny in a situation, and her love for & dedication to her family. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ray David Baxter, and three daughters: Stacey Baxter of Memphis, Shelley Ost (Daniel) of Germantown, and Kathryn Richmond (Randall) of New Orleans. She is also survived by her brothers Timothy Grannan of Memphis and Kenneth Grannan (Stephanie) of Safety Harbor, FL, and four grandchildren: Connor Ost, Samantha Ost, Lucy Richmond, and Finn Richmond. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy Marie Hunter Grannan and Cornelius Austin Grannan, brother John "Jack" Grannan, and sister-in-law Victoria "Vickie" Grannan.

In lieu of flowers, she preferred that a donation to a charity of your choice be made in her honor.

Tim, Ken, Dave & girls,
I am heartbroken & saddened by the unimaginable loss of Margie. She was a special, fun cousin. I loved being with her, Tim & all from Memphis. I have such wonderful memories of growing up, traveling between Evansville and Memphis, not to mention Summer vacations at different State Parks.
I will always remember watching the lunar landing in July 1969, in your Memphis living room and seeing Neil Armstrong take his first leap. I will cherish these memories. I will pray for peace, for each of you, as you grieve. May God bless you during this most difficult time.
Love, prayers, peace...
Your cousin,
Judy Beth (Grannan) Thurman
