Marjorie Garner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 13, 2025.
GRANBURY, TX - Marjorie "Marge" Marie Parish Garner passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on March 12, 1933, in Dexter, New Mexico, Marge was the daughter of Ralph Parish and Vivian Sparks Parish. She grew up in Ozona, Texas, and graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1950. She went on to attend North Texas State and San Angelo State University, where she was proud to be part of the original Rambouillet dance team.

On April 24, 1954, Marge married the love of her life, Bobby Joe "Pete" Garner, in San Angelo, Texas. Over the years, the couple built a beautiful life together, living in Harlingen, Odessa, and most recently Granbury, Texas.

Marge worked for more than 30 years with Ector County ISD, serving as a secretary for food services and vocational programs and as an attendance clerk at Bonham Junior High. Even after retirement, she continued her work with students as a substitute teacher.

Family and friends knew Marge loved sewing, crocheting, fishing, golfing, dancing and shopping.

Marge is survived by her husband of 71 years, Pete Garner; their children Mark and Cindy Garner of Austin, TX; Gary and Vanessa Garner of Granbury, TX; and Steve and Joni McCants of Houston, TX; grandchildren John McCants of Junction, TX, and Alissa McCants of Austin, TX; and great-grandchild Stella Novak of Austin, TX. She is also remembered by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Vivian Parish, and her brother, Ralph Parish Jr.

To honor her life, the family will plant a living urn on their property in Junction, Texas - a lasting tribute to her memory. A small, private service will be held at that time.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites friends to celebrate Marge's life by supporting one of her favorite causes. As a proud member of the Odessa Pilot Club, she cherished the tradition of the Community Christmas Tree. In her memory, you may sponsor a "light" on the tree - sponsored by the Pilot Club of Odessa - with proceeds benefiting the Odessa Rehabilitation Center, a cause especially dear to Marge's heart.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caregivers, Cheryl and Teresa, whose constant presence brought comfort and peace, and to Enhabit Hospice of Granbury for their exceptional care and kindness.

Yesterday

You will be missed Marge. Marge always loved a good party....just to fellowship with friends. I have so many fond memories of golf trips together. However, I did not like shopping with Marge...I didn´t have the time to spend. She was a great shopper and loved it. Rest in peace sweet Marge
