Marjorie Jean (Cook) Goss, of Shelton, longtime resident of Oronoque Village, Stratford, joined her Lord on November 17, 2025. She was born on August 18, 1927, in Flemington, PA, the beloved daughter of the late William R. Cook and Clara (Bodle) Cook.
As a child, she was known as "Cookie" or Jean, until she started school. Growing up, her family life centered around the Flemington Methodist Church. Therefore, it was only fitting that she would someday marry a Methodist minister, her devoted husband, Rev. Roy Goss, who predeceased her in 1984.
Marjorie graduated from Lock Haven High School and attended Lock Haven State Teachers' College and Western CT State Teachers' College. She loved to sing and belonged to choirs from grade school through college and beyond. She sang in every church choir, wherever she lived, and enjoyed harmonizing with the Oronoque Village Voices for many years. She also played the organ and took lessons from Rosa Ria, a famous Radio City organist. In addition to her responsibilities as a preacher's wife, Marjorie worked side by side with Roy in many capacities while he was President of the United Methodist Homes of Shelton, CT (now Masonicare at Wesley Village). They enjoyed traveling throughout the world and going on cruises. Marjorie worked for State National Bank and Connecticut Bank and Trust as a teller and later, as assistant manager. In her retirement, she participated in various activities at Oronoque Village including golfing, bowling, Garden Club, Canasta, Mahjong, and SASS. Her other favorite pastimes were shopping with Becky, doing crossword puzzles and word searches, watching Jeopardy and Wheel, and cleaning.
One of the highlights of her life was welcoming home her three grandchildren from Russia, in 1994. They were the joys of her life, and she loved being their "Babushka".
Marjorie is survived by her loving daughter, Becky Virgalla (Bob) of
Milford, CT, grandchildren Marina Hunt (Matthew), Olga Virgalla, Viktor Virgalla (Kathleen), Tonda Davis, Michelle Landers, Brian Goss, and Ryan Goss, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She has a special extended family, the Paytons. Marjorie was predeceased by her sister, Shirley (Cook) Ferguson, stepdaughter Nadene Metz (Lenny), stepson Robert Goss (Janie), and fiancé, Jack Payton.
We would like to thank the CT Hospice team and the staff of Bishop Wicke for their care over the past several months.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life for Marjorie at Nichols United Methodist Church on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Please wear bright colors. A private interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Shelton.
