On April 24th, Marjorie Hoffman left this earth accompanied by the angels from heaven that she so treasured and loved throughout her life.
Born on June 4, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY, she was a New York girl through and through. She graduated from Bushwick High School in Brooklyn, NY in 1941. She met her husband Arthur Hoffman when they worked together in the same business office. They were married on June 1, 1946.
Marge began working in the insurance business shortly after they moved to Warwick, NY, in 1958. She was active as a Girl Scout Troop leader and became president of the local Girl Scout Council. She joined the Insurance Women of Orange County and eventually became president of the organization.
When she retired, Marge and Arthur moved to South Berwick, Maine. Marge did not let retirement slow her down. She volunteered at the food pantry in South Berwick, the Bible Speaks Church in South Berwick, and was a volunteer at Wentworth Douglass Hospital for 29 years working in the gift shop and as a patient advocate.
She liked living close to the ocean and had many fond memories of summer days spent there with her grandchildren. She loved having dinner at the Lobster Cove in York and delighted in feeding the seagulls at Nubble Light.
Marge cherished spending time with her family. She loved butterflies, the color purple, and, most especially, angels. She gave out specially blessed angel coins to many people who were in need of a little compassion and kindness.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Angels Church in South Berwick.
She is predeceased by her husband Arthur Sr., her son Arthur Jr., her brother Thomas Ryan and grandson Terry E. Smith.
She is survived by her daughters Arlene and Anita and husband Paul, and her grandchildren: Ryan and his wife Randi and their children Tessa, Maverick and McKenzie; Scott and his wife Lindsay and their children Jackson and Amelia; Colleen and her husband Chris and their children Ethan, Aedan, Ashton, and Avery; granddaughter-in-law Kima Smith, and her daughter Teré Joy, and husband Zach and their son Levi; Jonathan and his girlfriend Ilona; Jason; and Lisa; Joy and her son Boz; Chris and his twin sons Tim and CJ; and Robin and her children Rex, Lola, and Bo.
Visiting hours will be from 9 AM to 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home in 301 Main St. South Berwick, ME.
A mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 AM at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 162 Agamenticus Rd. South Berwick, ME, and she will be laid to rest at St. Michael cemetery in Rollinsford.
In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to make a donation in her name to Wentworth Homecare and Hospice or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Caron

April 26, 2023

This is Caron 4 Woodland Hills. I recently spent time visiting with Marge. I brought HER a special Angel coin which she loved and placed in her special hanky in her pocket. I have given Marge collections of Butterfly pins which she adored and proudly wore often. We often ran into each other hunting for gems at the Goodwill store when it was in Dover, her & Ellen Door typically. I do enjoyed talking with her, she's very wise and just so kind & caring. I was so looking forward to celebrating her 100th birthday in June. She will be so sorely missed by so many friends & people's lives she has touched. Best regards to her family. Wishing you peace & love at this difficult time. What an amazing woman!
