Marjorie A. Hopkins

Marjorie A. Hopkins was a wonderful example of a well-lived life. At 96 years of age, Marjorie still taught her children what it looked like to live life with purpose and intention. She was fiercely loyal, loved big, and forgave easily. She loved Jesus and others. She sent birthday cards and copied scripture by hand every day. We have learned so much just by her example.

As a child, Marjorie fiercely loved her parents. She was born to Marvin and Kathleen Adams. Being the daughter of a Southern Baptist Minister, she learned to be a friend to all. She was born August 2, 1929 in Cynthiana and her childhood ended at Middlesboro High School. Mom has memories of WWII as a teenager, as she made quilted lap robes, heard about the USA entering the war in 1942 after church on a Sunday, and having light drills in the mountains of Kentucky. Marjorie grew up caring about others.

As a daughter, she cared for her parents in many ways. She moved in with her own mother after the sudden and unexpected death of her father while she was in college. As an only child, she helped her mom navigate widowhood and find her footing in the workforce. Much later in life, she took her mother into her home and cared for her until it was no longer possible. Mom's example was to respect and love her parents throughout their lives.

As wife to Lee Hopkins, she was a constant support to him in his ministry, until his death a decade ago. In addition to faithfully teaching Sunday School, she was the church pianist and involved in mission groups. Mom was an introvert, and she didn't necessarily enjoy the social activities associated with ministry. But she did them with poise, kindness, and a wicked-funny sense of humor. She called those tasks "grace builders." Even until recently, she would often advise us to look at difficult situations as grace-builders.

Finally, as a mother, Mom was an encourager to us all and our biggest cheerleader. She of all people had seen us at our best and worst, and loved us through it all. When we rebelled, Mom prayed over us, believing that we would come out the other side much stronger. She modeled unconditional love and supported us as we reared our children. In her golden years, she continued to be a shining example of what it looks like to follow Jesus with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, and a little bit of sass. We are incredibly thankful for the blessing that was Marjorie Adams Hopkins!

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Kathleen Adams, and her husband Lee Hopkins. She is survived by two daughters: Kathleen (Michael) Gregory, and Susan (Arnie) Forman; their 5 children: Erin McMaster and Keith (Carrie) Gregory, as well as Benjamin (Kristen), Micah (Johnna) and Sam (Molly) Forman; and her 10 great-grands (Jenna, Cohen, Kendall, Kirsten, Zeke, Evan, Bowen, Callan, Truett, Aston) with another to be born in May of 2026. Marjorie is also survived by a slew of aunts and uncles, cousins and friends too numerous to count. But we know she was welcomed into heaven by those who had gone on before. Just three weeks before she died, Marjorie dreamed that she was again holding hands with Dad. It's nice to think of them together again!

Services for Marjorie will be held on Monday, January 5th with a visitation beginning at 10 AM up until the time of her funeral service at 12 PM at First Baptist Church of Cold Spring, 4410 Alexandria Pike Cold Spring, KY 41076. Marjorie will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Southgate, KY.
