Richard Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Owen Funeral Home - Jeffersontown on Jan. 2, 2026.
Richard (Rick) G. Davis, 76, died at his home on Sunday, December 28, 2025. Rick was born on December 5, 1949, in Glasgow, Kentucky, the son of the late Leo and Jean Davis. He grew up in Horse Cave, Kentucky, and graduated from Caverna High School. He went on to graduate from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tennessee, with a degree in history and education.

Rick joined the Army National Guard and served six years as a reservist in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. After completing boot camp, he began working part-time for an engineering firm in Glasgow, Kentucky, later moving to Frankfort, Kentucky, for a full-time position. He then returned to school at the University of Kentucky, where he earned an engineering degree and began his lifelong career as a civil engineer in the wastewater and sanitary sewer field.

His career took him to engineering firms in Syracuse, New York; Houston, Texas; and Cold Spring, Kentucky. He retired in March 2025 from a firm in Louisville, Kentucky.

Rick loved to read, with the Civil War being one of his favorite interests. When his sons were young, the family traveled on many vacations to visit battlefields including Gettysburg.

His passions included University of Kentucky football and basketball and was especially excited when he first purchased season tickets in the early 1990s. Many years were spent tailgating with friends and family, traveling to away games, and enduring the many ups and downs of Kentucky football. His love for UK athletics was passed down to his sons and his grandchildren.

Rick also enjoyed music, with the Beatles being his all-time favorite band. He was very active with his sons in sports, and soccer became a favorite family pastime.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Jean Davis, and his brother, Dennis Davis.

He is survived by his sons, Brian (Jessica), Kelly, and Stuart (Joni) Davis; his grandchildren, Lorelan Harris and Tucker and Delaney Davis; his brother, Tim Davis; and his former wife, Deby Davis.

A visitation and service will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026, from 2-5 p.m. EST at Owen Funeral Home-Jeffersontown, 9318 Taylorsville Road, Louisville.
