Marjorie Jothen Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 5, 2025.
Marjorie I. Jothen passed away on October 1, 2025, given the gift of years, at the age of 106, after a full and meaningful life. She was preceded in death by her sister, Norma Warmie, her brother, John (Jack) Warmie, and her former husband, Herman (Hank) Jothen. She is survived by her goddaughters Karen Dreckmann, Linda Othrow, and MarjorieLynn Germer along with many other loving relatives and friends.

Marjorie was born on March 13, 1919, in Minneapolis, MN, and moved to Milwaukee at age two. She graduated from West Division High School in 1936 and went on to earn her Registered Nurse degree from Mt. Sinai School of Nursing in 1942. Marjorie served in the Army from 1943 to 1946, including assignments in Australia, the Philippines, and New Guinea. During her deployed service, she also played the pump organ for Sunday services. After her military service, Marjorie used the GI Bill to pursue a Certificate of Public Health from Marquette University and a BS in Public Health from the University of Minnesota in 1952.

Marjorie had a lifelong love of music, beginning piano lessons at age 7, and later singing in various choirs, playing in handbell groups, and even for church services. She was particularly involved with the Bel Canto Chorus and Redemption Lutheran Church where she played the organ, bells, and piano. She also led a sing-along group at Luther Manor where she lived for many years.

In her professional career, Marjorie worked as Assistant Director of Nursing at St. Michael's Hospital and later supervised other visiting nurses for the Visiting Nurses Association. She was also involved in Swedish genealogy, writing two books on the subject. Marjorie was very active in the Swedish American Historical Society of Wisconsin, serving as president from 1995 to 2004 and historian from 1999 onward and a longtime member of Linde Lodge, VASA.

Throughout her life, Marjorie was known for her vibrant spirit, her love of music, and her enduring contributions to her community. She outlived stage 4 breast cancer and a heart attack, living a resilient life, inspiring those who were honored to know her.

Marjorie's Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 1st, 2025, at the Faith and Education Center of Luther Manor, 4545 North 92nd Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Krause Funeral Home will be coordinating this complete service with a video link. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, followed by the service at 11:00 AM. Lunch and a time of fellowship will follow as we share memories together.

Marjorie's ashes will be interred privately at Wisconsin Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, Marge's wishes were to support three organizations close to her heart:

Martin Luther Lutheran Church

Breaking the Chains Church

and the Swedish American Historical Society of Wisconsin.

Thank you for honoring her memory.
