Marjorie Virginia Phelps (nee Marjorie Laffoon), of Saint Charles, Missouri, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the age of 99. Beloved wife of the late Robert E. Phelps; cherished daughter of the late Lewis and Bertha Laffoon; devoted mother of Sherrie Phelps and Jean (Christopher) Mutrux; loving grandmother of Abigail (Andres Zambrano) Mutrux; dear aunt of Victoria (Edward) Brazer and Glenn (Arella) Merritts. Marjorie is preceded in death by her two brothers, Wallace (the late Wanda) Laffoon and James Laffoon, her sister-in-law, Helen (the late C. Mack) Estes, her brother-in-law, J.D. (the late Loretta) Phelps, and her niece, Mary (the late Jan Gieselman) Estes.
Marjorie was an active member of the P.E.O. International, served two terms as president of the First Capital Republican Women’s Club, and a member of Dardenne Presbyterian Church. Highly motivated, driven, and an exceptional achiever in many areas of her life, she spent more than 40 years as an educator, inspiring her students to pursue excellence with the same determination she embodied. She loved attending horse shows and took great joy in watching her daughters and granddaughter ride. A talented pianist and singer, she shared her musical gifts in the church choir for over 20 years. Marjorie was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
