Mark Altman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Uht Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Jan. 16, 2026.
Mark Allen Altman, passed away on January 14, 2026, at the age of 64, in Garden City, Michigan. Born on January 25, 1961, in Wayne County, Michigan, Mark's journey through life was one of resilience, dedication, and a deep love for his family.

Mark's formative years in Livonia shaped the tenacious and spirited man he would become. His later decision to attend night school and earn his high school diploma was a testament to his belief in the value of education and his commitment to personal growth. Mark carried this accomplishment with pride, as it represented not only a milestone but also his determination and strong work ethic.

In May of 1981, Mark united in marriage with his high school sweetheart, Carol Altman. Their love story was one for the ages, filled with their unique love language and the playful banter that only true soulmates can share. Carol's passing in August of 2023 left a void in Mark's heart, yet he cherished their memories and continued to honor their life together.

A devoted father, Mark's legacy lives on through his children, Mark Altman Jr. and the late Natalie Altman, and his adoring grandchildren, Elliott Altman and Abigail Ertell. His role as a grandfather brought him immense joy, and he relished every moment spent imparting wisdom and creating lasting memories with his grandchildren.

Mark's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. In his younger days, he found solace in woodworking, a craft that allowed him to express his creativity and skill. His culinary adventures were legendary among friends and family, as he delighted in experimenting with new recipes and flavors, always leaving his guests eagerly anticipating the next meal.

The companionship of his beloved black lab, Quincy, was a source of great comfort to Mark. Quincy's recent passing was a sorrowful chapter in Mark's life, yet the bond they shared was a beautiful illustration of loyalty and friendship.

Music was a cornerstone of Mark's life, with Frank Zappa holding a special place in his heart. Discovering a concert film about his favorite artist on YouTube brought Mark immense excitement, as it rekindled memories of past concerts and the vibrant music scene that he loved.

Despite his occasionally prickly exterior, Mark was a dependable friend and confidant. Those who knew him understood that beneath the surface was a man ready to extend a helping hand without hesitation. His presence was a source of strength and support for many, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Mark Allen Altman's life was one of enduring love, unwavering commitment, and an unquenchable zest for life. He will be remembered as a man who lived authentically, loved deeply, and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched. As we bid farewell to Mark, we celebrate a life well-lived and cherish the memories that will forever keep his spirit alive within us.
