Mark Binner Obituary

Mark Frederick Binner was born on June 3, 1962, in Boonton Township, New Jersey to Frederick William Binner and Dawn Eldefsen Binner. Mark, accompanied by his parents and sisters, moved to Huntsville, Alabama during the 1970s. Mark earned his Eagle Scout on August 23, 1977, when he was 15 years old. Mark graduated from Grissom High School in 1980, where he played clarinet in both the marching band and concert band.
After high school Mark furthered his education at the University of Alabama in Huntsville where he studied engineering. Mark went on to work in the defense industry in his 20s and remained in the same field of work until his passing on September 15, 2025. During his career he was fortunate to travel the world and make memories to last a lifetime. The Netherlands was one of his preferred destinations, and he intended to return there to commemorate his 65th birthday.
Mark regularly spoke at Huntsville City Schools board meetings to represent students' needs and safety concerns. Seeing that change was necessary he served on several election committees and played a key role in the election of three new members to the school board.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Fred Binner; his paternal grandparents, Elsie and David Binner; his maternal grandparents, Ella Longendyke Holt and Frederick Edlefsen; and his step-grandfather, Oscar "Tex" Holt.
Mark is survived by his son, Hunter Binner and wife, Lauren; his daughter, Brittany Marcus and husband, Joseph Farmer; his granddaughter, Lorelai Farmer; his mother, Dawn Binner; his sisters, Elline Binner and Lynelle Lamons; his stepsisters, Cynthia Smith and Elizabeth Smith; his stepmother, Martha Sue Binner; mother of Hunter and Brittany, Diona Binner; his cousins, Father Frederick H. Edlefsen II and Kirsten Edlefsen Dickins; his nieces, Jessica Knight, Alexandra Guthrie (Damen) and Natalie Smith; and his nephew, Griffith Knight.
A celebration of life for Mark will be held at Laughlin Service Funeral Home on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to Disabled American Veterans.
