Mark Ashby Burgess, 71, of Louisa, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on October 28, 2025. He was born September 4, 1954 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of the late Berl A. Burgess and Jonella Vanhoose. He was also preceded in death by his brother David E. Burgess and his sister Janie A. Burgess.
Mark was a hardworking man who spent much of his life as a heavy equipment operator in the coal mines. His strong work ethic and dedication carried through every part of his life. He loved his church, studying his Bible, and sharing his gift of music through singing and playing the guitar.
More than anything, Mark loved his family. He was happiest when surrounded by them, watching his grandkids in every sport, teaching them the trades he had mastered, and making sure they always knew how deeply they were loved. Every moment with his family was a memory he cherished and a story he carried proudly.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Judy M. Burgess of Louisa; his son Jason (Cassie) Burgess of Louisa; and his daughter Amy (Bub) Adkins of Louisa. He was the proud Papaw to five grandchildren who were the light of his life, Jasper and Addison Burgess, and Rayson, Trenton T Bird, and Sophie Adkins. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephewes, and extended family whom he dearly loved, along with his good friend John Laney, who was a true friend to the end.
Mark will be rembembered for his faith, his music, his hard work, and the love he poured into his family.
Well done, good and faithful servant. Matthew 25:23
