Mark Buzzard, 72, of Pampa, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024 in Pampa.
Memorial services will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Robin Gantz, John Curry, and Rev. Mark Lang officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 from 6:00-7:30 PM.
Mark was born July 27, 1952 in Pampa to Ross and Dorothy Buzzard. He attended Pampa High School and graduated in 1970. After high school, he went on to graduate from the University of Oklahoma in 1973. In 1975, he graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law. Mark married Vanessa Arthur in 1973 and they recently celebrated 51 years of marriage. Mark joined the firm of Buzzard Law Firm, P.C. in 1976 along with his father, and later wife, and he continued to practice until his recent illness.
Mark became an Eagle Scout in Troop 98 as a young man and continued to support the Boy Scouts throughout the years. He was an Assistant Troop Leader in Troop 414 in Pampa for over 15 years. Mark served on the area Eagle Review Board for many years, vetting many young men to make sure they were the caliber necessary to be an Eagle Scout. He also was a former board member of the Golden Spread Council of Boy Scouts. Mark was very proud that there were three generations of Eagle Scouts in the family.
Mark’s involvement in law was extensive as he was a member of the State Bar of Texas, Texas Law Foundation, former member of the State Bar of Texas Grievance Committee; former Assistant District Attorney; former City Attorney for the City of Lefors and former City Attorney for the City of Pampa.
He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pampa. Mark loved history and biographies. He was also an avid sailor. He loved his family and spending time with them. His favorite role was “Poppy” to his three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Vanessa Buzzard, children, Matthew Nelson Bussard of Key Largo, FL, Beth DeStephens and husband Jimmy, of Hingham, MA, and Ross Douglas Bussard, Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Doug DeStephens, Bobby DeStephens, and Joey DeStephens all of Hingham, MA; sister, Andrea Buzzard of Amarillo, Texas.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to the Boys Scouts.
