Mark Charles Byrne

Mark Charles Byrne, known affectionately to friends and family as Mark, was the kind of man who could rebuild an engine, make you laugh, and make a fantastic smoked turkey all at the same time. Born in Michigan on April 21, 1955, Mark's life was a journey filled with laughter, love, and a touch of grease. Sadly, the world became a bit quieter on August 5, 2025, when Mark left us from his home in Middletown, NY, at the age of 70.

Mark's life was one of dedication and joy. He shared 48 and a half wonderful years with his beloved wife, Shelley, who stood by him through thick and thin. Together, they raised their two sons, Chaz and Mathew. Though Mathew left us too soon, the strength and wisdom Mark instilled in his family ensured their bond remained unbreakable.

He was a man of many talents. Mark's hands were rarely still, spending years as an automotive mechanic before turning his expertise to the HVAC systems at East Ramapo School District. His coworkers knew him as the guy who could solve the most difficult of issues with a smile.

But life wasn't all work for Mark. He had a passion for classic cars, especially his restored 1969 Z28 Camaro, in which he was able to work on with his brother Dan and Shelley's cousin Shawn, in addition to other members of his family. Mark was also a family man at heart, cherishing moments spent with his loved ones, whether he was showing the various unique things he captured through his lens or tackling home renovation projects where he spent countless hours researching and executing to make sure it was just right.

In his post-retirement years, Mark wasn't one to sit still. He volunteered at Warwick Valley Central School District, where his humor and selflessness made him a favorite among his colleagues. But it was at Goosepond Mountain Sanctuary, an animal rescue founded by his son, Chaz, and daughter-in-law, where his impact was felt most deeply. There, Mark dedicated countless hours to caring for rescued animals and was instrumental in building and maintaining the facilities over the course of 11 years. He was a man who put his heart into every nail he hammered and every life he touched, especially his favorite duck friend, Doodles.

Mark was the embodiment of three simple, yet powerful words: funny, selfless, wise. He had a joke for every occasion, a helping hand for every person in need, and a piece of advice for every problem. His laughter was infectious, his generosity boundless, and his wisdom timeless.

As we bid farewell to Mark, we remember a man who lived life with gusto and kindness. He was a beacon of light and laughter, a true friend, and the best damn father, husband, son and sibling you'd ever meet. Mark's legacy is one of joy, a life well-lived, and a world made better by his presence. Though he may have taken his final curtain call, the echoes of his laughter will reverberate in our hearts forever. Rest in peace, Mark. You were truly one of the good ones, and our world will never be the same.

Cremation was private.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 pm on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. Family and friends will host a Celebration of Life at 3 pm at the funeral home.
