Jason M. Mathis, known affectionately as Jason to his friends and family, passed away unexpectedly on August 7, 2025. Born on June 20, 1978, in Goshen, NY, Jason's warm smile and generous spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.

Jason was a proud graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School, class of 1996, whose sense of community and service shone through his work and volunteer efforts. For twenty years, Jason dedicated himself to ensuring the safety and well-being of New York's citizens through his work with the New York State Thruway. His commitment to his community did not end there; he was currently employed at the Village of Woodbury and worked part time at Falanga Trucking. Jason also gave back to his community through his many years as a volunteer at the Monroe-Lakeside Fire Department, where he was respected for his dedication and bravery.

Beyond his professional and volunteer work, Jason found joy in life's simple pleasures. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, a passion that allowed him to experience the freedom of the open road. Music was another of Jason's loves, and he could often be found attending concerts, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow music fans. A sports enthusiast, Jason was a dedicated NASCAR fan and never missed a chance to cheer on his beloved Miami Dolphins.

Jason was predeceased by his father William Brown and his mother Frances "Sissy" Mathis. Jason's memory will be cherished and kept alive by his loving and devoted wife, Jennifer, and their sons, James and Michael, who will forever remember Jason's strength, tenacity, and wit. His grandchildren, Leah, Aubrey, James, and Mika, will miss their grandfather's playful spirit and gentle guidance. Also mourning Jason are his Uncle Bill and Laura, Aunt Deb and Uncle Pete, as well as his siblings Billy Brown and Kelly Brown-Soto, several nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues who were all enriched by his presence in their lives.

As we reflect on Jason's life, we are reminded of the words of Helen Keller: "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Jason's legacy of love, service, and joy will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of those he touched.

In celebrating Jason's life, we recall not just the accomplishments of a dedicated worker, a brave firefighter, and a loving family man, but the enduring impact of a life well-lived, one filled with laughter, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to others. Jason M. Mathis will be profoundly missed, yet the love he shared will resonate perpetually within the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
