Mark P. Cernak Sr., 73, of Chesapeake, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Mark was born on December 15, 1951, in Washington DC, the son of Anne Margaret (Healy) and Steve Cernak. Mark spent most of his younger years in South Norfolk where he met his best friend and the love of his life, his wife Regina. He was later drafted into the Army where he served in the Honor Guard during his deployment to South Korea. After returning home he went to work for the Norfolk and Portsmouth Beltline Railroad where he worked for over 25 years.
Mark had a great sense of humor. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. He loved to watch old western and sci-fi movies, even the ones he had seen several times. He loved going to college, education was very important to him. He would have made a career out of going to school if he could. He had a big heart for helping others. A lot of his time and money went into helping non-profit organizations.
Mark will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Regina, his children Lisa, Mark Jr., John and Joey. Along with his siblings Mike, Tim, Susan and Barbara and 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Mark's life with U.S. Army Honors will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, January 26, 2025, in Oman Funeral Home and Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, 23322. His family will receive friends from 12:00pm until 2:00pm, prior to the service at the funeral home.
