Mark Coy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ames Monument & Cremation Center on Jan. 22, 2026.
Mark Eugene Coy, age 57, of Iowa, passed away on December 23, 2025, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mark was born on July 17, 1968, in Boone, Iowa.

Mark was a kind, loving, and humble man-selfless in the way he cared for others and full of empathy that couldn't be taught. He had a witty, spunky sense of humor and a lighthearted way of facing life. Even in hard moments, Mark held onto a positive outlook and didn't let life get the best of him. One of his favorite sayings summed him up perfectly: "It is what it is."

Mark loved the simple joys of life-especially Okoboji, camping, and being outdoors. He found peace in the ocean, lakes, sunsets, and sunrises, and he often described them with one word: "Beautiful." That was Mark-someone who could still see beauty even through struggle.

Mark was a deeply devoted father and grandfather. He kept to himself in the best way-pouring his heart, attention, resources, and love into those he cherished most. Mark raised Lila and Wesley from birth as his own children, and he cared for them with a steady, unconditional love. In his final days, he still did everything he could to take care of the ones he loved.

Music was one of Mark's greatest joys. He had an intense love for it, and artists like Tina Turner, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton were staples in his life. His love for music carried him through many seasons, bringing comfort, joy, and strength.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Ronald Coy and Linda Coy; and his grandparents, William Eugene Coy and Mable Coy-Holden, and Alonzo Coleman and Eva Coleman.

He is survived by his brother, Troy Coy; his daughter, Cheyenne Wheeler; his beloved grandchildren, Lila and Wesley Coy, Zafira Serrano, and PJ Serrano; his niece, Amber Coy; his former wife, Brenda Ordones; his aunt, Carol Steineger, and her children Charissa Springer and Jolene Steineger; his uncle David Coleman; his cousin, Levi Brush; his lifelong friend, Samantha Stevens-Clay; and many other relatives and friends.

Mark had a beautiful soul, and we know he is looking down with a smile-watching over the family he loved so deeply. We will continue doing our best to honor his memory, and the legacy of the Coy family he held so close to his heart.

As Mark would say: "Proud Mary keep on burnin'."

Arrangements and service details will be shared by the family.
