Mark Durma Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Collins Funeral Home - Norwalk on Aug. 1, 2025.
Mark Edward Durma, 75, of Norwalk, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on July 30th, surrounded by family.
Born on December 31, 1949, in Newark, New Jersey, Mark grew up in Manasquan, NJ, where his love for the beach and the Jersey Shore began-a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. He earned his degree in Political Science from Newark State College and went on to build a long and meaningful career as a Program Specialist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service. Mark was especially proud to be part of a pioneering team that helped establish and implement nutritional lunch programs in schools across the country-work that continues to impact the lives of millions of students today. He also served as an adjunct professor at Mercer County Community College, where he taught Adult Education in computer skills.
Mark had a sharp mind, a warm heart, and a quick wit. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he found the greatest joy in spending time with his family-especially summer BBQs, afternoons in the pool, and vacations together. He loved baseball, softball, golf, traveling, and was a lifelong learner who could often be found with a good book in hand. He also loved being an active part of his community and generously gave his time to organizations that meant a great deal to him. Mark was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Wilton, served on the board of the Silvermine Community Association, and was president of the Holy Name Society at Holy Cross Parish in Trenton, NJ, for 30 years.
A dedicated Jeopardy! fan, Mark impressed everyone with his trivia knowledge and surely would have been a champion if he had ever made it onto the show.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Teresa (Saganowski); his daughter, Stacey (Durma) Pacino and son-in-law John Pacino; and his cherished grandchildren, Benjamin and Sydney. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, August 5th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and Wednesday, August 6th, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. A Massof Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 6th at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 229 Danbury Road, Wilton. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, 165 Ridgefield Road, Wilton.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Mark's memory by donating to the Lung Cancer Foundation in his name.
