In Loving Memory of Mark Hughes Fields
September 26, 1963 – July 19, 2025
Mark Hughes Fields, born in
Lexington, Kentucky, on September 26, 1963, passed away peacefully at home on July 19, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Mark graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1983 with an associate degree and went on to build a successful career in computer programming. His life took a beautiful turn in 1993 when he met his beloved wife, Gayle, on a blind date. That meeting sparked a love story that would become the foundation of a devoted marriage and a loving home.
Mark and Gayle worked side by side in life, he as a dedicated computer programmer, she as a compassionate pharmacist. Together, they welcomed their children, Jacob Fields in 1998, and Savannah Fields in 2001. Mark was not only a loving husband but a deeply committed and honorable father. His quiet strength, wisdom, and unwavering love built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unforgettable memories. He was also a longtime member of Tates Creek Christian Church and spent several years leading a Bible study group known as Grass Routes.
Mark was survived by his cherished wife, Gayle Fields, his son Jacob Fields (Blake), his daughter Savannah Fields, and his siblings Ron Fields (Vickie), David Fields (Diane) and Laura Howard (Gary), who carry with them the stories of his childhood and the legacy of his kind and generous spirit, and predeceased by his father Gano Fields and mother Loraine Hughes Fields.
In 2020, Mark was diagnosed with ALS. Though faced with unimaginable challenges, he never lost his humor, resilience, or devotion to his family. Even in the hardest moments, Mark continued to uplift others with his wit, quick comebacks, and heartfelt advice. He had a gift for making people laugh and an even greater gift for making them feel supported and seen.
Mark will be remembered for the way he lit up a room, the way he cared deeply for those around him, and the way he never let hardship dim his light. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and strength that will continue to guide and inspire his family and all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place at Tates Creek Christian Church on Friday, July 25 at 12:00 p.m.
